Proper installation of your vinyl tile can be accomplished in five steps.

STEP 1:
Layout of the Room

Treat the room as a rectangle and disregard offsets, alcoves, etc. Find the center points of the two end walls and snap a chalk line between them. Find the center of the chalk line, and using a carpenter's square or tile, draw a second chalk line at the right angles to the first line, and extend it to the side walls. The room is now divided into four equal parts.

Treat the room as a rectangle...

STEP 2:
Adjustment of the Border

Starting at the center of the room where the two chalk lines intersect, lay a row of tile to one end wall and a second row to one side wall. Measure the distance from the end of the last tile to the wall. If it is less than 6", move the center line 6" nearer to the opposite wall. Do this in both directions. All borders will now be wider than the tile and it will be easier to cut and fit.

Adjusting the border can save you a lot of time!

STEP 3:
Installation of the Tile

Start at the center point and peel release paper backing from the tiles and place tiles in position, making sure they are flush with the chalk line and also making sure each tile is tight against the next tile. Press tiles against sub-floor for good contact.

If you choose to use a full spread adhesive, follow the adhesive application instructions carefully on the package.

For best contact, roll the edges of the tiles with a wallpaper roller or even a rolling pin. Discard release paper in a wastebasket immediately after removal from tile back as it is very slippery.

Peel and Stick!

For best contact, roll the edges of the tiles

STEP 4:
Fitting of the Border Tile

Without removing the paper backing on the tile, place a loose tile directly over the last tile in the row. Place a second tile over the first loose tile so that one end of the tile is butted up against the wall. Now mark underneath the tile with a pencil or knife. Cut along the marks, remove release paper, and lay border tile in place.

STEP 5:
Fitting Around Irregular Objects

Make a pattern out of heavy paper to fit around pipes or other irregular objects. Then place the pattern upon the tile and trace. Cut along the trace lines with scissors or a utility knife. When done, remove release paper and install the tile.
